Super awesome announcement!

I have been saving for a REALLY long time to do some one-on-one mentoring with one of my favorite newborn photographers.  We finally set a date!  January 31st and Feb. 1st I will be mentored by the great Jennie Pyfferoen!  Check out her work.  It's amazing.  I'm so excited to learn from her!

Busy season!

It is BUSY season for photography!  Did you know that when a photographer says that they are "editing" a photo, it means more than just cropping it?  Most photographers shoot in RAW format which means that they "develop" the photos in the "digital darkroom."  Those who have been  doing this for years have the system down pat and can go through this process pretty quickly.  It used to take me forever (think 1 hour per photo) but I've gotten quicker.  Not quick enough to do a photo session every day, though!  So you'll have to excuse the lack of recent photos on here.  I'm playing catch up and hope to get back to blogging soon!  In the meantime, here is a before and after that you might enjoy.

The {P} family | Kingsport photographer

I can't believe that I never posted these maternity photos!  I LOVE them.  We did them just before the sun went down and got some really beautiful shots with the sun peeking through the trees.  And these two were just so fun to be around.  They obviously love each other very much and were so excited for their baby to get here!

And THEN I got to photograph her baby shower.  Which was a ton of fun.  All of her friends and family were so excited for her!

And then he CAME!  And he's ADORABLE!  Get ready to see a bunch of him because I get to watch him grow up.  They're doing my "baby's first year" plan.  I'm so happy for them and they're going to do great with this whole parenting thing!

The {C} family | Kingsport maternity photographer

This is the SECOND time that I've been able to photograph this two awesome people.  They are so fun.  The first time was to announce their pregnancy, this time was to document the pregnancy.  Their little baby boy will be here in just a few weeks and I'm so excited to meet him!

I made her come to my home "studio" to get this shot above.  I'm so glad that I did :)  Usually studio photography is done in my front room (I've got some KILLER natural light in there) but because it was later in the evening and all my kids were home, we did it in the driveway.

Fall 2013

I am so honored and flattered that so many of you have been drawn to my work. I truly LOVE what I do! However, being a mother of four means that my availability is limited. I am waiting on just a few more deposits and then I will be booked through November 2nd. If you would like an appointment with me after then, please let me know so I can get you on my calendar. I really hate turning people away!

Baby {E} | Kingsport newborn photographer

This sweet mom contacted me about a week before our session.  She'd had a C-section (which is incredibly difficult to recover from, by the way) and hadn't been able to contact me earlier.  Her baby was a month old!  I have shot "older" babies before, and they are quite different from newborns.  They're not as curly and sleepy and this little gal was STRONG!  She kept straightening out her legs and wriggling ALL over the place.  I didn't dare put her inside a prop because I was afraid she'd jump out.  She had some bad reflux and it was obvious that her little tummy wasn't feeling good.  It was really sad, actually.  She cried a lot.  But that was okay because she was GORGEOUS and I really loved photographing her.  Her parents were so proud and so in love and I think we got some great shots.

My favorite things | Kingsport photographer

I am often asked what my favorite thing is to photograph.  It's such a hard question to answer.  I LOVE photographing families and seeing the bond that they have with each other.  I adore photographing couples.  My engagement session was so fun.  I love photographing newborns and my favorite photos are always the ones of the parents just beaming with pride while holding their sweet little infant in their arms.  So how do I answer that question?  My favorite thing to photograph is RELATIONSHIPS.  That is why I do what I do.  I am not nearly as concerned about everyone looking at the camera as I am about showing how much people love each other.

That being said, I do have a lot of little kids of my own (four to be exact) and I'd really love to convince my husband to let me have another.  Because photography takes quite a bit of time away from my family, my dream is to one day do exclusive newborn photography.  This is much more conducive to my lifestyle and I can do it while my children are at school.  This won't be for about 5 years, though...and who knows?  I'm really not ready to give up families and couples and children just yet.  So we'll see.
